Fandom & Me

I have been a fan of good TV shows and films for as long as I can remember. I enjoy a good storyline, and I have also done film studies. I guess you can say I am a lifelong student of that medium.
To make it in TV, Film, Theatre, or the Arts, you need to know your people. Who will enjoy what you do? Why are you doing what you do? These are a couple of basic questions for the media and arts industry. So, I want to launch a section over the next 12 months where we will dive into some shows, what made them tick and why they were successful, take a look at the new stuff coming out, and check out a variety of interviews along the way.

My Involvement In Fandom

From a purely personal standpoint, fandom is fun. It was stressful for me at first as I was used to working in studios and dealing with creating a product or the day-to-day interests that pertain to my industry. Once I got over my initial shock of “wow, there are a bazillion people out there that are into this”, the fun and maybe some adrenalin mixed in there took over.
I launched a successful fan club for the American TV show Supernatural, intending to do a couple of interviews, covering what was happening in Australia in that particular fandom and maybe leaving it at that. That’s not what happened. It got bigger and bigger, easily hitting 5-10 million views per year on my Facebook page and my website, at least 1K-2K social media share per post, I am well known in the industry. I called my adventure Supernatural Down Under, and it was an amazing ride.

All that to say, I am a veteran at this and want to expand into what is happening in the industry, the chatter and the projects.
Inside of You is a podcast I have well vetted and promoted over the years. Due to its excellent content, I will include it here, over the next 12 months, as a part of our deep dive.
I finished up with my fandom experience when Supernatural wrapped in September 2020. I managed to get some behind-the-scenes videos before the set in Vancouver, B.C., was taken down.

Supernatural Set Tour, 2020. Tour by producer Jim Michaels in Vancouver.

I started my “fan” club interviews and other general interviews in 2016. I interviewed Jim a few times, both online and by video. I found him to be professional, incredibly polite, and easy to get along with.

All that to say we will be doing a deep dive over the next 12 months, to go behind the scenes and understand what makes shows successful. Again, I am a veteran and have been in the industry since I was under the age of 10, so yeah, a long time.
