When your budget is tight, don’t fret. Embrace the power of DIY and become the master of your own self-care. The benefits? A healthier, more confident you.
You will look excellent and feel great because you are looking after yourself. But what is the point of all this, you may ask? It will boost your confidence. As well as looking sharp and saying to the world “I don’t care if things are tight, or I’m a bit broke at the moment, or even what’s the point?” with a few tips and tricks, we will build you from the ground (or at least the roots) this weekend.
Confidence is your secret weapon. It’s what gets you out of bed each morning, ready to face the day. It’s what pushes you to pursue your goals and keeps your life on track. When it comes to self-care, it’s about being smart-finding the right products that work for you and buying them at a good price.

Tip no. 1
Make your bathroom a bit of an oasis. Or if you have children or share with others, have a kit that you keep in a portable basket with your hair products, a face washer and a towel. Something that tells you this is some ‘me time’ and is a queue to look after you. Create a personal space that you find relaxing. Make a point of doing it over this weekend or week. Keep your kit clean and tidy, so you look forward to this time. This time would be part of your hair care routine and getting organised is the key to staying motivated.
Tip no. 2
Find the best salon near you that fits your budget. If you’re just in for a trim, consider washing and conditioning your hair at home before your appointment. This way, you can skip the additional treatments and styling, and only pay for the trim, which is usually about a third of the full service price. If you’re really watching your pennies, consider getting your haircuts at a hair school. You’ll get a professional cut at a fraction of the cost, and you’ll be supporting the next generation of stylists.
Tip no.3
Embrace your inner DIY King or Queen. Learn to style your own hair, choose the right hair products (keep it simple for now), and if you’re up for it, experiment with hair colour. When colouring your own hair, ensure you rinse the colour thoroughly and use a colour-safe shampoo to remove excess product before applying a mask or deep conditioner. Remember, patience is key-wait at least 3- 4 days before shampooing to let the colour settle.
Why not indulge in some self-care this weekend? Treat your hair to a DIY hair mask or a 5-minute scalp massage with some oil. You’ll be amazed at how these simple treatments can boost your confidence and make you feel pampered.
The Results
Lots of confidence. Once you learn this skill, you will look employable, well-groomed, and presentable. If you have small children, remember to cut or trim their hair off YouTube, if needed, for how-to tips.
