Makeup Artists Magazines

Among the plethora of online sources for makeup artists, there are two exclusive platforms that stand out. These are not just any sources, but the top 2, in my opinion, that you should consider first to build up a unique repertoire for yourself. These two are like a bedrock, providing a special understanding of what to glean from others. It’s also worth noting that Kryolan’s websites are quite useful. With a global Kryolan and an Australian website , you have access to the best source for you. Don’t forget to explore your local sources, as they can provide what you need locally, no matter where you are.

IMATS, the International Makeup Trade Show, has significantly advanced the fields of Makeup and SPFx over the years. It’s always beneficial to attend if you can, as they offer showcases, demonstrations, Q&A panels, and valuable networking opportunities.

The IMATS makeup website is a treasure trove of resources, offering a wide range of courses and podcasts for makeup artists to enhance their skills and knowledge.

The Makeup Artist Magazine website features a selection of older magazines, some of which are rare and highly sought after. These magazines offer valuable book ideas and collections. While some are currently sold out, they are worth noting and watching in old bookshops, online, or in libraries. I was fortunate to find an exceptional face painting book, which had fantastic tips and design ideas. I applied these ideas to various events, including Christmas events, fashion shows, and community events, and even created some videos. Remember, be open-minded about your resources.

Films to watch

This will be added as a regular piece here, too, given the demands of going from 4K to 8K and generally what is happening in film. It won’t be overwhelming; just two or three films a month. These discussions are not just about films; they’re about us, our shared passion, the connections we make, and the challenges we all face. They’re good ideas for conversations and to keep you sharp.

The Terminator

Get ready, film buffs! The Terminator is turning 40, and it’s a favourite among fans. We can’t wait for the chit-chat and celebrations around this for a couple of months. It’s going to be a blast!

Dune Part 1 and Dune Part 2

Both films are available now. They could be worth looking at given visual, costume, makeup and writing demands. It is good to stay current in this industry.

Podcasts

Two convenient podcasts that are currently available are Supernatural Then and Now, which provides a unique behind-the-scenes look at the popular TV show, and the Inside of You podcast by Michael Rosenbaum, which offers intimate conversations with various guests. These podcasts, run by industry professionals who understand our shared challenges, are a powerful tool for making the most of our time. Whether you’re on a long commute, waiting for appointments, or enjoying quiet moments at work, they empower you to turn what would be lost time into valuable learning and entertainment. Just remember to keep a few episodes downloaded on your devices for those no-internet moments.

Supernatural Then and Now features a few interviews with the creator, Eric Kripke, and some of the producers. It is available on most podcast platforms.

Inside of You is also available on most platforms, and a video version is available on YouTube, as seen below.
