Francis Ford Coppola’s career has spanned decades, incorporating a new vision of storytelling for Hollywood, when it was drowning in Western Films. Known for The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, and The Outsiders, he has lent his hand to great stories.
Recently, he took on the memorable first science fiction film, Metropolis (1927), which also featured the first idea of a robot in a movie. Coppola titled his reimagining of the 1920s Megalopolis, starring Adam Driver.
When I came across this Criterion Closet interview, I knew we should all take a look at it. Criterion interviews are wonderful for providing insight into what inspires others, along with whatever else they choose to share with us.
My takeaway from what Coppola shared with us was his thoughts on what our entertainment (which for us now includes gaming) would look like. I had similar thoughts to this. With the emergence of technology, it would change our experience of film/TV/ gaming, and even live experiences like theatre or a circus. My mind went to how 3D had become a thing in the past and how Cirque du Soleil had changed live performances.
As a side note, Apple is constantly working on new technology, having enhanced the depth experience announced in their last Apple event, which is now available on their computers and iPhones. Personally, I was very impressed by the Apple event and their buildings.
